The type beat genre within hip hop is a debatable topic. Some music producers think it’s a great way of explaining a specific instrumental to hip hop artists. While other producers feel that you are stealing the sound of another producer.
There is no getting around the fact that when rap artists go online looking for rap instrumentals they usually look for a specific rap artist followed by the words "TYPE BEAT"..OR "ARTISTS NAME TYPE BEATS"?
What Are Type Beats?
A type beat is where underground producers create hip hop music in a style similar to that of a specific rap artists.
Using the phrase attached to that specific rap artist gives the up and coming artist a familiarity with that given instrumental.
If you take for example the artist Drake. A Drake beat might be a mixture of different styles of instrumentals. Some of which would include, trap, old school, sample and rnb styles of music.
If you take artists like The Migos, Gucci Mane and Future, ninety-nine per cent of the time these artists only ever rap over modern trap music
Then if you pick hip hop artists like 2 Pac, Biggie or Nas style instrumental, you will quickly understand that this is a old school or sample type instrumental.

Smooth Rap Instrumental
Travis Scott has to be one of the stand out artists in hip hop at this moment in time. The reason I like making similar music is down to the fact that I don't get stuck in one particular genre. Here I have the freedom to make lo-fi freestyle beats or modern trap beats.
Smooth Rap Instrumental
Drake has to be one of the stand out artists in hip hop at this moment in time. The reason I like making similar music is down to the fact that I don't get stuck in one particular genre. Here I have the freedom to make lo-fi freestyle beats or modern trap beats. Drake Instrumental beats are the most popular instrumentals online.
Trap Type Instrumental Beats
These are some of my latest Trap beats. stemmed from a guitar riff I had recorded on the guitar into logic. The guitar riff itself wasn’t that special. I began to tweak and manipulate the sound so that it would have something that sounded unique.
If you listen to that majority of trap instrumental beats today, most of them are pretty minimalists and simple.
Drake Type Beats
Drake has to be one of the stand out artists in hip hop at this moment in time. The reason I like making similar music is down to the fact that I don't get stuck in one particular genre. Here I have the freedom to make lo-fi freestyle beats or modern trap beats.
Drake Instrumental beats are the most popular instrumentals online. He is such a versatile rapper that he can mix it up from being very modern with aggressive , softer approach with rnb instrumentals.
This is a more modern approach to a neo-soul beat.Inspired by the music producers that make modern hip hop music that are un-sampled but sound like they have been chopped from a record. I feel that this particular instrumental is more of a Rick Ross Type Beat Taking inspiration from his last album I feel that I wanted to make something a rap artist could become a storyteller.
This beat here is more of a Rae Sremmurd Type Beat. The instrumental is pretty fast-paced dark and entirely open for most modern hip hop artists to rap over. I like the sound that Rae Sremmurd rap over. Even though the beat fits under the familiar trap music genre, there is something modern and unique.
Kid Cudi Type Instrumentals
It is based on similar music KiD CuDi made back in the “Man on the Moon” day. This again was one of his very popular beats and instrumentals, and was inspired by the sounds of The Man On The Moon hence what you get to hear is very similar to that. This was Kid Cudi’s debut studio album and was made immediately after his first mixtape.
Lil Baby Type Beats
Are you looking for music similar to Lil Baby online? Need to download trap beats that 100% royalty-free? This song was on Lil Baby's Album Harder Than Ever which was released in 2019.
Bryson Tiller Instrumental
This Bryson Tiller Type Beat has a very busy verse type of synths. It is also a common type of beat with really heavy synths. A busy and slow-paced trap type synth beat is also called an Electro Trap. Click the link to listen to more beats with a similar sound to that of Bryson Tiller.
J Cole Beats
I put together a list of J Cole Type beats that I have produced over the last couple of month. This is a mixture of modern trap beats and classic boom bap beats that sound sampled but are just modern instrumentation which has been heavily filtered.
The Weeknd Beats
In this video, I’ll be teaching you guys how I created this electro type of beat that is similar to what you would hear in The Weeknd’s music.
If you want to learn how to create the same beat I made, keep on watching. Also find a collection of all my The Weeknd Instrumental Beats right here.
Day Dream Drake Instrumental
Daydream is a cut from the Drake instrumental cloth. Again this has a freestyle beat element to the instrumental. Throwing the lyricist deep into storytelling lyrics. I can hear Drake influences from the lonely piano accompanied by a simple of kilter boom-bap drum pattern. To give this track an old school vibe, I filtered a the piano and played around with a number of reverb effects.
Migos Type Beat - Turn Up
Turn Up is an instrumental that has a dark commercial trap vibe. This instrumental is very current. I think the angle I was going for with this instrumental is along the lines of a Migos instrumental. The instrumental is very casual, confident and hypnotic.
One the offset it sounds rather repetitious, with very little instrumentation. But when you are trying to make trap music in style of Nicki Minaj or The Migos you have to find a very simple hook that rap artist can mould into their own creation.
Shakin That is a club trap song. Sometimes when trap music are popular on the first listen I just don’t understand why people are hooked. Taking, for example, two of Tyga’s Biggest hit “Rack City” and “Taste”. Both have a very casual trap drum pattern and very little instrumentation. This was the vibe I was going for in this Shakin that Instrumental. More along the line of a Tyga beat. I wanted to see what I could do with a very basic 808 drum pattern, mixed with chopped female vocals and simple bell-like melody. The result is a very confident summertime club track. Very radio friendly. Short sweet and catchy.

Why Do You Make Type Beat Instrumentals?
Inspiration has to come from somewhere. Whether or not the attribution of specific artists plus the phrase,is associated with it or not. Most of the time when I go to make any type instrumental I am looking for the elements of what makes the music stand out.
If I removed the attribution of associated with any of the music that I have produced nobody would know where my inspiration came from. I don’t believe in completely copying the music that has inspired me. That is never my goal. My focus is to place myself right there in the studio with an influential rapper.
Here I am creating a more creative mindset to see what type of instrumentals I could make if I had been commissioned to do so. Inspiration has to come from somewhere.

Helping New Rap Artists Find My Music.
There is a number of up and coming hip hop artists around the world searching online for rap music as we speak. It is my duty to serve this new audience with the type of tracks they are looking for.
I just make sense to make hip hop music that I like and what rap artists are searching for online. If I just named my music a generic song name nobody would find it.
Does Your Music Contain Samples?
Not any more. There are 2 sampled tracks left on the website. I only kept them up there to show hip hop artists I can still sample records.
Any beat that sound sampled is heavily processed to give an old school boom bap style. Any male and female vocal samples found in my beats have come from sample packs which are royalty free from Modern Producers.

Drake & Future Beat
I’ve started doing the Beat Breakdowns Series again where I break down some of the beats I have created. This time around it will be a Drake and Future Type Beat, more similar to the rap beats created by Metro Boomin. Similar to what we will find in songs like “What a Time to be Alive (with Future)” and “If You’re Reading This” from Drake’s last two albums.
Day Dream - Drake Instrumental
This is one of the newest beats that I’ve done. It’s a Drake style beat, called “The Sixth”.
It’s kinda dark rap instrumental beats. These dark drake beats are my favourite instrumentals to make. I will just give you a brief intro of what the beat sounds like. Then I will show you how I created this beat and how it all came together. So, this is the intro.
Migos Beat - Turn Up
This is another Beat Showcase 3 video where I show you how to make one of my new rap beats. It’s a J Cole Instrumental. It’s called Summer Nights. I’ll leave a link in the description and on the video for you to listen to it completely. I will just give you a quick preview of what it sounds like.
Simple Vibe Rap Beat
I created this simple, chill vibe type of beat in Logic Pro X. I wouldn’t call this a single or a hit song that tops the charts, but more of like an album filler. The beat is the kind that could be use with spoken word type of hits from rappers like Kid Cudi.
